Stinger HPM Series 0 Gauge Matte Blue OFC Power Wire Review

This is really high quality wire and I would recommend it without question. I've made the mistake in the past of buying cheap wire for a system and wish I would have spent the extra cash in the first place to get wire of this quality. When it comes to car audio wiring, you really do get what you pay for and this wire is proof of it. I'd rather wire a system once than twice, don't make the same mistake I did and use quality wire like Stinger or Streetwires the first time and save yourself a headache.

Generac 5778 XG4000 5,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit Review

Generac 5778 XG4000 5,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit

First of all I would like to say that I love this Generator. I bought mine from a local dealer, after reading about this new model from a popular mechanics article and award, but I think my review may be useful to others here. The setup of the generator is very easy and only took me two minutes. Generac includes your first maintenance kit with the generator (this comes in handy, I will explain later.) I got my generator about a two weeks before Wisconsin (where I live) got hit with a huge blizzard 24" of snow and 40mph winds with -5 F temps. We lost power for almost 24 hours - my wife, who was very annoyed that I bought this unit just before the holidays, changed her tune greatly when our house was the only one on the block with heat and christmas lights running. The Generator performed great the entire time. Since Generac includes the maintenance kit I didn't have to run aroud trying to figure out where to buy the oil filter as the unit needs to have oil and filter changed after the first 30 hours (break in period.)
Now to the features, this model surges to 5000 watts and is very compact and sturdy. The best feature is the built in power meter that allows you to know how loaded the generator is without having to add up the watts. Also, the power quality is very good with this unit and I had no problem running my computer or LCD tv throughout the storm. The noise level, which I expected to be very loud, was not bad at all. I had no problem standing next to the unit while talking to all my neighbors about why I still had power.
I am not too concerned about reliability because I bought a Generac because my father has had an older model portable for 13 years and my Uncle has had the same Generac Portable for almost 30!! Also, I have a Pressure washer with a Generac engine on it for 12 years and have never had a problem (lots of use too.) Plus, the unit comes with a two year warranty

The generator was easy to assemble, started right up after filling oil reservoir and fueling. I haven't had a power outage yet since getting this generator (go figure). The only drawback I've seen (so far) is the information provided on the available plug receptacles is rather weak. The 50 amp plug is located underneath the panel face where all the other plug receptacles are located. It has a wire "latch hook" to keep the plug from falling out, but no info on how to properly use it. I had difficuly locating the correct male plug with a "straight" out feature since most are 90 degrees. It would have been nice to have the male plug-end supplied with the generator. I finally found one at Grainger (cost over one hundred bucks, but it's top notch). Although the muffler assembly is impressive looking, it's not quite as quiet as I expected.

Featuring a compact, wheeled frame for easy transport, the Generac 17,500-Watt Portable Gas-Powered Generator with Electric Start provides a reliable power supply wherever you need it. A Generac OHVI (overhead valve industrial) engine delivers performance and power, while a sturdy steel-tube cradle protects the generator's exterior. For safe and comfortable use, the circuit-breaker outlets prevent power overloads, and the low-tone muffler makes for ultra quiet operation.
(Note for California residents: This model is not CARB-compliant (units sold to California must be CARB-compliant) or CSA-certified.)
A Durable Power Supply Wherever You Need It The Generac 17,500-Watt Generator with Electric Start is an ideal portable generator to have at home, on the job site, or wherever you need power. Its compact frame--48.5 x 31 x 39.5 inches (LxWxH)--is fitted with lifting eye handles and pneumatic, all-terrain wheels for easy portability. And with its hardened steel-tube cradle, this rugged generator holds up well for frequent travel, allowing you to look forward to years of operation. Plus, this model features an electric ignition for fast, easy start-up.
Thanks to its versatile design, this generator adds comfort and possibility to any situation. Use it to keep your family safe through unexpected blackouts or make construction jobs faster and easier.
A Low-Maintenance, High-Performance OHVI Engine Designed specifically for generators, the Generac 17,500-Watt Generator with Electric Start's heavy-duty 992-cc OHVI (overhead valve industrial) engine boasts a host of features. An exclusive X-Torq governor maximizes the engine's performance to keep it running without stalls. And so engine components continue moving smoothly, a pressurized lubrication system sends oil directly to critical areas.
Thanks to this full-pressure lubrication system, the engine can employ an automotive-grade, spin-on oil filter that sifts out dirt and other unwanted substances. The oil filter works alongside a dual-element air filter. Together, the two keep engine performance at a maximum and maintenance at a minimum.
Plus, this generator's sturdy, 16-gallon resin tank ensures a full 10 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. The automatic-idle control reduces fuel usage and noise, while the tank's built-in fuel gauge lets you monitor fuel levels at a glance. Generac even provides you with your first supply of oil.
Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances The most heavy-duty of Generac's GP model generators, the Generac 17,500-Watt Generator with Electric Start supplies 17,500 output watts and 26,250 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.
For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, computers, and electric stoves, as well as air conditioning systems and sump pumps. (A manual transfer switch is required to connect to air conditioning systems.) For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support large devices such as lawn mowers, belt sanders, and table saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.
(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)
Safe, Quiet Operation with Overload-Protected Outlets If security and quiet operation are important to you in a generator, then the Generac 17,500-Watt Generator with Electric Start is an ideal choice. Its outlets (two 120-volt, two 120-volt GFCI, one 120-volt 30 Amp twist lock, one 120/240-volt 50 Amp, and one 12 VDC battery charger) are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances. And the low-tone muffler means the generator runs at a comfortable noise level that easily blends into the background.
This generator is backed by a two-year limited warranty.
What's in the Box Generac 5735 GP Series GP17500E 17,500-Watt 992-cc OHVI Portable Gas-Powered Generator with Electric Start (Non-CARB Compliant), 12VDC 365-CCA battery, first oil supply, wheel kit, maintenance kit, and manual.

Paper filters for my car are hard to find and expensive. The payback on K & N is just four replacements of the throw-away paper filters.
When you order the K & N filter, you may want to order the K & N "recharge" kit at the same time. This is the kit to clean and re-use the filter.
I have recommended this product to my friends.

The extremely quick setup time means that you have to be ready to move quickly once you start to apply the product. However, if you're prepared for this, it's enough time to get even a large item (i.e. transmission oil pan) reinstalled while the material is still workable.
The short working time is definitely worth it because you can immediately return the part to service. I recently used it to form a seal between the thermostat housing and engine block on an Audi A6, and it was great to be able to immediately refill the coolant and test the system without waiting for the sealant to cure.

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable Generator Review

Sportsman GEN154 2,000 Watt 80cc 4-Stroke Portable Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased one of these about five months ago from a popular online seller for $199.99 with free S&H. If you already own, or you are considering buying this gen set, you should read this. If you have experienced some of the same problems, maybe this info will be helpful. I am a retired Plant Engineer from a major world class manufacturer in the US and have 40+ years of experience with machinery and equipment so I know a lot about equipment manufacturing and repair. I really like the concept and idea of this gen set because its small, light, and it really does run about 9 hours (50% load) on a tank (1.3 gal.) of fuel but it does have its problems. I can sum up the problems I've had in two words, Quality Control! I can't speak for all the units out there, only mine. From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are several generations of this generator manufactured to date. I believe mine is somewhere in the middle with a manufacture date of Oct. 2007, so some, or all, of these issues may have been addressed with the newer ones. I will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I experienced it. I have two other generators that I use for emergency power but I needed something small, light, and more fuel efficient to use at the fish camp and hunting lease. I needed only about 1100 watts for lights, and to keep the RV batteries charged, so this one seemed the perfect match. Most people buy the largest generator they can get not realizing that they have to move, store, and feed the hungry beast. When I purchased this one, gas was over $4.00 a gallon so it was senseless to use a larger one for my needs and waste precious fuel. When I took it out of the box I liked what I saw. I filled it with oil and gas and started it as per the manual. I was disappointed that it took 7 or 8 healthy pulls to finally start it. Even though it was new it should start easier and quicker when you use the choke. After letting it run for 5 minutes or so I put it under a 1000 watt resistive load. It worked fine but I noticed a substantial amount of oil under the engine. Very disappointed, I shut it down and checked for any loose nuts, screws, oil plug, etc., but could not determine from where the oil was leaking. It continued to leak even though it wasn't running so I knew it was a below oil level leak. I drained the oil/gas and called the seller expecting to exchange it. Of course they recommended that I follow the manual and call the mfg. which I had already done. On the third day of calling the seller and demanding to talk to a supervisor, and demanding an exchange for one that functioned properly without leaking oil, he finally told me they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be restocked and offered a refund of the full purchase price. I took his offer and ask him how he wanted me to handle the return S&H. His reply surprised me. They didn't want it back and he asked me if I would dispose of it. Sure I would! I think he had an idea what the problem was and it wasn't worth it for them to pay return S&H, repair cost, and then having to sell it as refurbished for a reduced price. I was sure that with a little time I could determine the cause of the leak and possibly fix the problem. I was unable to see from where the oil was leaking without removing the generator from the frame so that's what I did. It appeared that the oil was coming from under the front motor mount so I removed both motor mounts. I still couldn't tell exactly where the oil was coming from. I cleaned the bottom of the motor and then filled it with transmission fluid (do not run it like this) knowing the red color would be easier to detect. It worked! The oil was coming from a "casted in hole" that could be used for an oil drain in other applications. Manufacturers generally do this a lot so they can use their product for different applications and mounting configurations. They just don't drill the unused casted hole all the way through. The problem was that in the bottom of the hole the aluminum was so thin that there was porosity in the aluminum casting. The oil was leaking right through the casting bottom even though no flaw was visible. An easy fix for anyone who knows their way around tools and procedures. I had to find the proper size tap and put threads in the casted hole as the mfg. would have done for a bottom oil drain. You must use a flush mount plug for this because the front motor mount fits against the bottom of the motor casting. I also used sealant because I knew I would never need to remove it. I filled it with oil and major problem solved! Now for the hard starting issue. You must be really careful with this one because the recoil starter cage is plastic. I really wish they would have spent a few more cents and made it of metal. The manual will tell you not to pull the starter rope all the way out. This is because you will pull the plastic recoil starter housing right off the motor. If you are a big person with long arms this will be a challenge. I've read many complaints where this has happened. There is a seller on ebay that has sold many of these for parts/repair, and all are missing the recoil starter. No doubt broken by over pulling the starter rope. Remember, it takes several quick, healthy pulls to start this thing. It feels to me like the compression should be a little higher so I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance. It was correct but I was surprised at how weak the valve springs are and I suspect the valves are not seating 100% on this one. This would account for being hard to start and lack of power which I will address later. I removed the spark plug and checked the gap. Too close! Only .020" which would result in a reduced spark. Should be around 0.030". I gapped the plug and tried it again. Not much improvement but I really didn't like the cheap plug that came with it so I went to the auto parts store and purchased a quality branded plug. This helped greatly! It starts with about half the pulls as before. Although it still doesn't start as easily as it should, this was a big improvement. Now for the load test. The mfg. description claims 1500 watts running load but that is a stretch for this one. No load voltage is 109 volts = OK. With 500 watts resistive load, it went to about 120 volts = very good. With 1000 watts resistive load, it was about 117 volts = perfect! When I added another 500 watts for a total of 1500 watts the engine strained just to keep running and the voltage dropped to 98 - 99 volts = too low. I reduced the resistive load to 1350 watts and the voltage came back up to about 109 volts = OK. It's only fair to say that other units that are running properly just might run at the claimed 1500 watts. As I stated above, I suspect the valves may not be seating 100% on this one which would account for the strain the little engine was in at 1500 watts. Anyway, this is all that I need so it works for me. Don't bother with the 92+ octane gas as the manual recommends. I tested 87 octane gas and 93 octane gas and could tell no difference, with or without a load, in the performance or voltage. At about 100 hours the sheet metal shield on the muffler fell off leaving three ¼" holes in the muffler where the shield was spot welded to the muffler. Not a big problem but a little more noise. For me the shield is not necessary anyway. The muffler is tucked well inside the frame and you would really have to be trying to get burned by it. If the additional noise bothers you just do what I did. Go back to the auto parts store and buy some muffler patch putty. Just smear it over the small holes and let it cure as per instructions. It can be sanded and painted with high temp. paint after it cures if you want. After about four months the fuel line developed a crack and started leaking. I replaced it with quality 3/16" fuel line and added an in-line filter. I switched to full synthetic oil after about 30 hours of operation so the engine should last a long time. One other note; once I put it under a 1000+ watt load the engine started working harder and developed more vibration. If the generator is setting on a smooth surface, it will start walking away caused by the added vibration. The cheap, clip-on vibration pads just don't work. Cut a piece of old carpet padding (18" X 18") and set the generator on it. I've put about 200 hours on this little unit and it still runs fine. All in all, after about $25.00 for parts/supplies, and eight hours of troubleshooting and labor, I have exactly what I want and I'm happy with it now. I believe it will now run reliably for many years of moderate use. I'm sorry this is a bit long but I hope this has helped someone.

Bought this generator on line, Have used it to power the whole house and it did great. Fuel used matched what they said it would. At 9000 watts it was half loaded and did great. A 3/4 HP water pump started up in addition and it handled the load perfecty. It will use more fuel then smaller generators but that is to be expected as it has a lot bigger motor and generator.
Good construction, Well built, heavy but built to last. Rating of watts is 15000, some manufactures would have rated it at 22500....
12 below zero and starts right up. Best safety net a person can buy.

Please make sure to use Amazon's fit guide, to ensure you are getting a product that fits your vehicle's airbox.
I'm a bit obsessive about my vehicles' maintenance. I always worry if I let an air filter go too long I will slightly hurt performance and or gasoline mileage, so I try to replace them regularly. Once a year, or 15,000 miles or so. However, following your manufacturer's recommendation is always good advice.
To the point, I often use genuine replacement parts from my car's manufacturer, however, I have also grown to trust the Mann name. After all, Mann manufacturers filters for some manufacturers, including I understand Mercedes-Benz.
This filter arrived in a quality Mann Filter Box as shown in the pictures. It appeared to be made in Mexico. The quality was as high as any air filter I had seen. Very study and stronger than other filters. My only concern was that perhaps the filter seemed a bit more air restrictive than other filters, but surely that cannot be concluded on appearance alone. It fit fine in my auto, and the car runs fine.
Surely, Mann seems to be one of the higher quality filter manufacturers.

Follow up - August 23rd, 2010:
Generac finally replaced my leaking unit. Hours of work on my part. The new unit idles quite different. On normal mode it idles significantly lower and flucuates up and down. In the economy mode, it simply idles even lower. The first unit seemed to idle normal (who knows) or high. In economy mode it flucuated up and down as stated in the manual. The electrical outlets are different. The first unit had commercial 120v outlets - one plug vertical, one horizontal. I spent $50 for a commercial extension cord. The new unit has regular (parallel) plugs. Therefore I'll need to buy an adaptor. Unbelievable. If there are any more problems I simply will pay someone who knows what they are doing (Generac's service people do not) or throw the unit out. Stay away from this unit. And stay away from Generac.
June, 2010 - Unit was defective out of box. Significant oil leak from engine even when not running. Took to 2 authorized Generac service shops. Still leaks. Leak is where 2 aluminum machine surfaces come together. Still trying to get resolution. Generac customer service fair at best. Takes considerable time to reach a human being. The unit already looks 2 years old due to the handling by the repair people and I've never used it. Generac has still not offered to replace. They "don't make the motors". A great excuse. I will contact Amazon corporate office if necessary to tell them not to sell this company's products and file in small claims court if necessary against Generac. Please consider other manufacturers' if you are looking for a small generator. I may be contacted at nfre at comcast dot net for photos of leak. Thank you.

I've had some problems with foaming in my Dodge transmission using some other brands of trans fluid, but Valvoline gives me no such grief. I can always count on Valvoline for a first-rate product.

B&M 70273 SuperCooler Black Aluminum Fluid Cooler Review

BandM 70273 SuperCooler Black Aluminum Fluid Cooler
Average Reviews:

This is a very nice cooler. It is built to last and looks great! The kit comes with everything you would need and more for custom mounting. It's a great deal at only $10 more than "racing" version that doesn't come with anything but the cooler.
UPDATE 1/26/2011: The cooler mounting is still sturdy and haven't had one issue and the transmission is nice and healthy. Definitely a good choice! I would also recommend installing an inline filter before the cooler just as an extra precaution while you're monkeying around in there. It's cheap insurance and will save a transmission.

B&M 70264 SuperCooler Automatic Transmission Cooler Review

BandM 70264 SuperCooler Automatic Transmission Cooler

Item was easy to install. Comes with MOST of the needed hardware (plus some extra). I did have to purchase some extra hoses since the hose that came with it was not long enough. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that I needed some more hose.
Tip: There is not "input" and "output" connection. They can be used interchangeably. I was able to confirm this with the company. If you decide to call the company - be prepared for a VERY long hold time. I was on hold for over an hour.

Superwinch 1125220 Terra 25 2500lb Winch with Cable Review

Superwinch 1125220 Terra 25 2500lb Winch with Cable

Wish I could have used this winch. The workmanship of the Superwinch looked to be top notch. I can not go any farther than that in my review since I was unable to install the winch when mounted to the Superwinch mount plate. I gave this winch 3-stars since the electrical studs sits on the outer edge of the motor housing at 180-degree apart from each other. That would not be a problem for most installations but Superwinch's mount plate (#2202855) was designed so the winch would be mounted to the back of the mount plate and not the base of the mount plate. This caused the electrical studs to sit on a vertical plane instead of horizontal plane and caused the electrical studs to make contact with the crash bars, unless you used the left most mounting hole positions to mounted the winch.
Using any other mounting hole, other than the center mounting hole positions, created another problem. One of the bolts anchoring the winch to the mounting plate would hit the ATV frame preventing you from aligning and bolting the crash bar and mount plate to the ATV frame. I guess this would be a Catch-22 situation.
According to the Superwinch web site, this mount plate kit is suppose to work with this winch when mounting to a 2007 Grizzly 450 4x4.
Cheers to Amazon!! Amazon did provide me with a full refund for the winch. I did not try to return the mount plate since it show wear from where I was trying to persuade it to fit the ATV.

To save yourself some money on this stuff, just use STP cut with a little 30 wt motor oil in your oil squirt can. Works better.
Use the same mixture for your chain saw bar oil, too
