I have a Toyota Tacoma, which has a small cut-out in the rock guard beneath the engine oil drain plug that is supposed to be for providing access for oil changes. The only down side to this design is that, once you start draining oil, the cut-out isn't large enough to ensure that the oil doesn't splash all over the top of the rock guard, creating a huge mess. So, this generally requires the removal of the rock guard, which is just time-consuming.
Enter this product. After installation, all I need to ensure a quick and relatively mess-free oil change is a drain hose (I use a small length of rubber fuel line I picked up from a local auto shop) and a container into which to drain the oil. No more splashing, no more mess! As another review I read mentioned, the drain valve will take a slightly longer time period (maybe a couple minutes longer) to drain the oil than would just removing the drain plug, but I feel this is a worthy trade-off when the alternative would require a few minutes of cleaning up oil spillage.
In short, this is a wonderful product. Though I have only used it once, the only foreseeable issue would be a failure of the drain valve, which I don't see as being a seriously likely problem.
Now, if only there were a way to remove my oil filter without getting a mess everywhere... :)
