Midwest 5 Gallon Metal "Jerry" Gas Can Review

Midwest 5 Gallon Metal Jerry Gas Can
Average Reviews:

I bought five of these at the same time, filled them with gas, cranked the caps down tightly, and then tipped them forward to test the seal. Three of them leaked no matter how hard I tightened their caps. In addition, it is very hard to tighten the caps down enough on the two that don't leak. In my judgement these are unsafe and unacceptable.

Blitz USA #31710 5 CARB compliant metal Jerry Can Review

I really don't like the plastic "spill-proof" spout that comes with this can. There's a rubber gasket that wants to come out and actually *prevent* the valve from closing, which completely defeats its purpose.
This is a very solid can, so I'm glad I bought it. But do yourself a favor and buy the traditional metal spout for it (Blitz 12040 3/4" Metal Screw On Spout) -- you'll be glad you did.

Eagle 5 Gallon Type 1 Kerosene Safety Can With Funnel UI50FSB Review

Eagle 5 Gallon Type 1 Kerosene Safety Can With Funnel UI50FSB
Average Reviews:

DANGER: This gas can may cause blindness! I have two of these and out of habit I insert the funnel into whatever I am about to fuel and then slowly release the spring loaded lid of the fuel can. The pressure that builds from the fuel warming caused the fuel to SPRAY in all directions including up. This has happened to me three times getting fuel splashed on my cloths. I wear glasses and it has never hit my eyes, but it is entirely possible. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR THIS REASON!

Mr. Funnel Fuel Filter F1C Review

I just got this funnel for Christmas. I used it to filter hydraulic steering fluid when I was bleeding my newly installing Sea Star Pro steering on my Allison GrandSport. The new hoses had some debris in them & I strained the captured fluid through it. I was afraid at first that the fluid would have too much viscosity to pass through the screen, but no problem, it went through very quickly. It left me with debris free fresh reusable fluid. I look forward to using it for fuel & other fluids.

Mr. Funnel Fuel Filters (#F1C) remove water, dirt, and debris from fuel. As fuel sits, it collects condensation, water and debris. One of the leading causes of engine failure is contaminated fuel. Use the Fuel Filter Funnel to protect equipment around the house or workplace including Lawnmowers, Pressure Washers, Generators, Gas Powered Tools, ATVs, Snowmobiles, etc. The Fuel Filter Funnel works with standard Gasoline, Diesel, Heating Oil, and Kerosene. It's Simple, Portable, and Self-Cleaning. Made from Industrial Grade Conductive Polypropylene.

Blitz 11055 Professional Fuel Station - 15 Gallon Review

Blitz 11055 Professional Fuel Station - 15 Gallon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm happy overall with what I got. The description tells most of it, it's a 3 foot X 1 foot dia tank and comes with a 6 foot hose, nozzle, ball valve & other fittings, and 4 nuts/bolts for mounting. It is intended for gravity feed, so the tank needs to be higher than what you'll be filling. I have this in my garage to store more than 5 gallons of gas (for a power outage or such as well as lawn mower, etc) where it's not on a vehicle or trailer that I can take to the gas station, so I must still lift other containers above it and hold them while they drain (or have a shelf above it & start a siphon). That's not the easiest up front, but dispensing later is a lot easier (just handling the hose & nozzle). Just remember to leave room in what you're filling to drain the hose when your done (and when filling my lawn mower, it only takes ~3 hoses full to show how short a time it takes).
The only issue I had with it was a concern over the pipe threads sealing well in the ball valve supplied. My understanding of pipe threads is that the threads have a taper so they "wedge" themselves into each other as they are screwed together to form a good seal. When I screwed a fitting into the ball valve by hand (without teflon tape on the threads), I found that the fitting "bottoms out" hitting the inside of the valve before the threads fully tighten up. That makes me believe that a leak path is more likely to remain around the threads since they're not getting fully "wedged" into each other (unless the flat face inside happens to make a good seal, but that's not supposed to be a sealing surface). Also if someone found a leak and decided to try tightening the fitting more to solve the problem (which is what's typically done), they could easily strip the threads since the fitting can't go further into the valve and the threads aren't as fully mated up as they should be. Since we're talking about a gas leak possibility with fire hazards as well as dumping what goes for over $3/gallon, I decided to spend five more dollars & get a different ball valve with deeper threads where that wasn't a concern to me any longer.
As a result of catching that ahead of time, I've not had any problems.
Update 9-2008. I've seen newer units in stores and they are now preassembling the ball valve and a couple of fittings on the tank, but you still must connect the hose & nozzle yourself. If they're checking what they've assembled for leaks, that may be nice, but they're still using the same ball valve with shallow threads which I still don't like for the reasons above.

Mr. Funnel F3C Fuel Filter Review

Mr. Funnel F3C Fuel Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two of the Mr. Funnel Filters: the F3C size and the smaller F1C size. The FC3 filter funnel has the filter raised above the bottom of the funnel so you always have about 3 fluid ounces of fuel left over in the funnel each time you use it. This design allows water and debris to collect in the bottom of the funnel without obstructing the filter. You must "dump the sump" after each use. The smaller F1C size does not have a sump area. I prefer using it to fill my lawnmower, chain saw or weed trimmer, since almost all the fuel goes through its filter.
I tried putting water in the funnel and it will not go through the funnel. The funnel also claims to be anti-static. Nice design.

Eagle UI50FS 5-Gallon Type 1 Gasoline Safety Can with Funnel Review

Eagle UI50FS 5-Gallon Type 1 Gasoline Safety Can with Funnel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased my second can and love them. The funnel is hard to put on but if you really pull back the handle it goes on pretty easily. The newer one works a bit easier than the older one. I agree with others that if the gas is stored in a hot area you shold release the pressure before pouring but the tank does not expand like my pastic cans do. When transpoting in the back of an SUV or car there is NO odor escape. I use them for tractors, lawn mowers, etc with no problem but I can see that if you were trying to pour into a car or truck filler door that was vertical it could be a problem getting sufficient gas into the vehicle.
