Shield Fire Protection Kitchen Guard Wet Chemical Fire Suppressant for Kitchen Cooking Oil and Grease Fires Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Consumer Reports May 2010 assessment: We tested two aerosol fire sprays, the First Alert Tundra and the Shield Fire Protection Kitchen Guard, and have judged each as Don't Buy: Performance Problem. Unlike the extinguishers we tested, neither has a pressure indicator that shows whether the unit is ready for use. And the sprays are not intended to replace a standard extinguisher (NFPA 10 compliant) where required, as the makers say on the labels. The sprays sometimes made the grease fire in our tests flare up before they put it out. That could cause the fire to spread or prompt the user to stop the spray. We found that two of the 10 Tundra samples didn't properly discharge.

Ideal for the home, the innovative Shield Fire Protection Kitchen Guard Wet Chemical Fire Suppressant quickly and safely extinguishes cooking oil and grease fires. The first wet-chemical fire-suppressant spray for use in the home, Kitchen Guard works more gently and effectively than traditional extinguishers. The instant-action spray ensures that oil does not splash, immediately stifles the spread of flames, and prevents fires from reigniting.
A Safe Solution to the #1 Leading Cause of Home FiresIf you want to protect your home from dangerous and all-too-common cooking-oil and grease fires, Kitchen Guard is just what you need. Because standard dry chemical extinguishers are designed for use on gasoline fires and not cooking oil, the spray is more forceful. When used in the kitchen, dry chemical extinguishers can eject the oil or grease from the pan, causing flames to reignite or expand. This is why dry chemical extinguishers are the wrong choice for kitchens.
So, unlike standard dry-chemical extinguishers, Kitchen Guard is a wet-chemical formula that sprays gently, preventing the spread of oil or grease. Once Kitchen Guard spray reaches the fire source, it instantly extinguishes the flames using advanced cooling technology. In addition, the Kitchen Guard spray seals the area to ensure that the fire remains completely extinguished.
Fights Flames Without Making a MessIf you've just experienced a kitchen fire, the last thing you want to deal with is messy cleanup. Thankfully, Kitchen Guard is expertly developed to tackle flames without creating the cloudy, chalky residue that standard dry-chemical extinguishers can leave behind.
With its clean-spraying, fast-acting formula, Kitchen Guard's cleanup time is about as quick as the time it takes to suppress the fire. Plus, Kitchen Guard's aerosol spray canister offers easy, uncomplicated operation.
Meets UL and NFPA Safety RequirementsAn ideal addition to any home, Kitchen Guard's formula meets UL (Underwriters Laboratories) safety requirements. Kitchen Guard has met UL subject 711A residential cooking oil and grease performance requirements, UL 300 modified fire testing of fire extinguishing systems for protection of commercial cooking equipment, as well as UL 711 requirements for electrical conductivity of spray to 35,000 volts.
And for its proven effectiveness, the Kitchen Guard wet chemical formula is recommended by the National Fire Protection Association for tackling cooking-oil fires in commercial kitchens. In fact, the formula uses the same agent that protects the deep-fat fryers that are often found in professional kitchens. Good news for homeowners, this powerful spray is ideal for residential use.
