(More customer reviews)It was easy to do. There are 9 screws you need to remove to get at the cabin air filter on the 2006 Subaru Forester. The instructions says 7 screws on top and 2 on the bottom. Though for the 2006 Forester, the instructions in the YTC box showing the screw location is off. Its actually on this 2006 Forester to be 5 Screw on top and 4 screws along the bottom. Other than that, once I got the cover off and pulled out the OEM filter, which was completely clogged and looked at its construction compared to TYC version, visually there was very very little difference and the filter material itself too. It fit perfectly. I did notice that in the TYC instructions it says have the arrow point down when inserted the filter, but the picture in the instructions shows their filter with the arrow marking on the plastic housing pointing up. When I pull out the original, it was also installed pointing up as well. So not sure what to make of it?
Anyway, installed took about 15 minutes, even with the screws taken out, make sure its all 9 screws, (5 top, and 4 along the bottom), you had to give it a little tug on the glove box housing to remove it. Once you do that, then remove the cover that leads to the filter compartment ( Note: you need to gently pull to loosen the two slip over clips and then slide the cover to the left a bit to remove it, then you can pull out and replace the filter with the new one.) Also its only a slightly bit tight space-wise because of some wiring/plastic piece that is jutting out a little on the right of the opening abit. Slight inconvenience only to pull out and put new one in like an ice cube tray.
Once installed, it works fine. My kids use to get a stuffed up nose in my car which I was suspecting my cabin air filter was clogged but not anymore now. I'm going to get more of these filters as the quality seems very comparable to the OEM filter at about have the cost for the filter alone.
Just wish that Subaru had design the access to the cabin air filter easier than removing 9 screws and the glove compartment.
