Champion Power Equipment 46534 4,000 Watt 4-Cycle Gas Powered RV Ready Portable Generator With Wheel Kit (CARB Compliant) Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)After losing power for 5 days last December I swore to never be in that situation again. I had looked at portable generators like the Honda and Honeywell 2k models because they were small and light (60 lbs). Unfortunately they were also expensive per kilowatt and did not have adequate power. On the other end of the spectrum are whole house 6-8KW models, but at 200+ lbs they are too heavy for me to move by myself. I opted for the Champion 4kw because it weighs 100 lbs and has a reasonable amount of power. I ordered on-line because my car is too small to carry the boxed unit and at 100 lbs it would be difficult to get in/out of the car. I was delighted to see the unit delivered to my door in just 3 days! It assembled in 10 minutes and started on the second pull. It is fairly quiet (no louder than a lawn mower) and easy to operate. The only caution is that to use the full 4kw you need a 110v/30 amp twist-lock cable, which I haven't been able to find at the local stores. You can use a standard 110v extension cord for lower power use.
All in all, I am very happy with the product and the fast delivery. Hopefully I'll never need it but the peace of mind is worth the purchase price.
