(More customer reviews)Use this on my Toyota RAV4. Perhaps it works on some other Toyotas etc? Filters you oil. What else can I say? My suggestion...........
This filter system is different because there is no disposable can. Found a brass drain plug on the internet with a spring loaded lever that alllows draining the engine oil with just a level twist, cost about $22 with shipping. These come in two models and may fit most cars. Been over a year but I just remembered I bought it through Amazon. Replaces oil drain plug for easier oil change.
Procedure filter change: Put on a latex glove to keep oil off hand. Warm engine a little to thin oil for faster drain time. That brass drain slower than original. Takes a little longer. It is possible to drain oil by just reaching under passenger side behind front wheel without raising car. I use a pair of those plastic (or metal) ramps to raise front end 8" +/- for more room. Put 8 quart drain pan under drain plug. Pull down and turn drain plug in open position. Go away for five minutes, return, close drain level and procede with oil filter change. Much easier, less messy than drain plug removal.
Been a few months but here is what I remember. Fairly easy once you get used to it. The larger aluminum can that holds the filter has a cap with flanges that make is possible to turn by hand. If too tight then use that special tool which is fairly cheap ($8?). BUT BEFORE you remove the large cap unscrew that small flat one in bottom of the large one. With drain pan right under push that white plastic plug that comes with the filter up into the hole which lifts the filter inside enough to drain oil in filter container. Use small "O" ring to replace small cap, replacing old one. THEN unscrew the larger filter container with the flanges, by hand, or using the tool with a socket lever. Square end of socket lever fits in cap "socket". With canister unscrewed while holding open end UP take to trash and dump out old paper filter. Replace larger "O" ring, place new filter in and screw back on. ADD NEW OIL.
I am done paying Jiffy Lube $40 for this 15 minute procedure and now I can buy premium oil from Costco in bulk to save and use better oil. RAV4 has two reset odometers. Reset one at oil changes and use other for gas mileage checks. That way you always know how long before the next change. Every 5000 miles a dash light comes on to remind you of oil change and other things. You can use this to remind you also but you do not know when it will come on in terms of miles so I use the odometer reset. Reset the maintenance dash light through a simple procedure explained in car manual. Reset is done with car key. Toyota has really done us a favor if we use it.
Outline: Drain engine oil.........drain filter can.......change filter.......and add oil..........reset maintenance light. Good to go for 5K more miles.
